Dead Men Walking
What are we, if not dead men walking
making our way through life
without pomp or purpose,
no light to guide us
living in constant despair
What are we, if not creatures of earth
with nothing truly our own
except perhaps our mind and soul
and I suppose that includes our bones
What are we, if not permanently children
living in constant fear
We fear death and truth,
crying and screaming
till there’s no one left to to hear
What are we, if not dead men walking,
Most would call that absurdity
but I don’t pride myself a liar
so I’ll say this with certainty:
“A dead man, that’s what I am
wandering through life, without a plan”
